Field Trip to Butterfly Museum

The Pumpkin Seed

On Saturday afternoon, I worked in the back yard pulling weeds, spreading mulch, and planting some annuals.  The boys were in and out of the house playing.  Cole came outside and asked me if he could plant his pumpkin seed and I answered absently that would be fine.  He and Riley busied themselves for the next few minutes with shovels in hand in the flower bed.

I mused that they were playing so nicely together after being at each other's throats all day.

And then it hit me...where exactly did they get a pumpkin seed.  Where is that pumpkin that was on our back porch?  Uh oh...

Take a wild guess what the playroom floor looked like.  Yep...tiny hacked up pieces of pumpkin and pumpkin guts everywhere.

Sigh...at least they had a good time and were playing nicely together!

Long time, no post...

It has been quite a while since I have last posted, but I am determined to get back into the habit of posting on a more regular basis.
I received an e-coupon from The Best Blog On the Block for a blog book. I have always wanted to have a printed copy of my blog posts so that I can look back and remember the everyday life that happened while my kids were young. It is all going by so fast that I want to preserve a little bit for later reflection.
So...that e-coupon led to me ordering a blog book, which I received in the mail the other day. Since then I have been re-reading all of my posts and laughing/crying with each entry all over again. This is the real stuff of life. I never want to forget it.
You might see some random posts from various months or events as I attempt to document what has happened these last few months, but even if they are out of order at least I am going to get it documented for memory's sake in the next blog book.
There's nothing like a good ole' coupon to get this girl motivated!!

Raising Boys post copied from my friend Beth

One of my friends from high school has a blog that I read regularly. Both of us have three boys, and I loved her most recent post so much that I decided to copy and paste it onto my blog. Thanks Beth @ Not A Bow In Sight!

Raising Boys
This past weekend I was at a women's retreat at church. Beside me sat two mothers who were mothers of only boys. Between the three of us we had ten boys. TEN. We laughed about the many scrapes and bruises, the smell of their bathroom, and the sheer noise level in our homes with nothing but us to balance out their testosterone.

Moms of only boys understand each other.

We understand that climbing on furniture and pretending that every object is a light saber or sword is normal behavior.

We understand that the busyness of little boys is insane...and that showers are a treat.

We understand that during this season we can't have precious items (or even pictures) sitting down low because they would not make it one hour.

We understand that the carpet will only be clean for about two weeks after it's cleaned...sigh...

We understand the noise level of a mock-Star Wars battle being played out in our living rooms while we cook dinner.

And that playing soft relaxing music is out of the question.

We understand that while our sons love us they need their dads just a little bit more as they get older.

We understand the great weight of raising godly men in a society that invites them to be just the opposite.

We understand the awkwardness of taking our sons into the ladies restroom with us because we're not quite ready for them to visit the Men's room alone.

We understand the phrase "if you're going to do that then go outside. No ____ in the house!".

We understand the poop jokes.

We understand the joys of parenting boys and how they really bless us and make us stronger women.Thank you my friends. We're in this together.

Busted

The boys come home from school with so many pieces of artwork, crafts, worksheets, flyers, and other items that I have to pare down in order to avoid having a house overrun with papers. I keep some items in a treasure box but the rest have to go. However, I did not do a good job of discarding these items discreetly.

#2 lifted the trash can and spied his artwork in the trash. He started to cry and I felt terrible. I said, "How did that get in there?" and pulled it out of the trash can and placed it back on the counter.

Mom of the year right here. Busted...

Ski trip

The week before Christmas we headed to Red River, NM with Matt's family. We stayed in a large house and had a blast learning to ski. Cole and Riley took two all-day lessons, and Cade took two one-hour private lessons. One afternoon we rented intertubes and slid down the bunny slope. At night we would play games, karaoke, Wii Dance Party, ate, ate some more, and ate some more, and had fun as a family.

The weather was warmer than I had expected, which is good since I am always cold. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law injured her knee coming off of the ski lift on the first day, and my nephew had a run-in with a ski lift pole on his face, but otherwise everyone came home in one piece!

I was amazed at how much gear that had to be layered and added and am glad we don't live in an area that is so cold that we have to do that every day!

Here are some of my favorite pictures:

Thanksgiving pictures

I'm just now getting around to posting more pictures from Thanksgiving. Life speeds up from Thanksgiving through New Year's!

The "adult table"
The outside "kid table"

Desserts galore!

What a feast!

Everyone filled out a leaf on the "Tree of Thanks" and taped it onto the tree indicating what they were thankful for. Cole wrote that he was thankful for his Mommy. I wish I had taken a picture of it but I forgot!

What a beautiful table! My mother-in-law is an excellent decorator.

My sweet niece - isn't she a doll?

Like mother, like daughter!
